Charles Hendricks, AIA, CSI, CDT, LEED AP is a Harrisonburg based Architect at The Gaines Group, PLC, a firm dedicated to common sense sustainable architectural solutions. He lives in Broadway, VA and works out of his downtown Harrisonburg office. Charles designed the first LEED certified home in the Southeastern United States, worked as a LEED Consultant on the first LEED Certified Industrial Project in Central Va, and has designed multiple Earthcraft certified homes throughout Virginia. Emerging as a leader of the green movement in 2003, he has been a featured speaker at the Department of Energy, University of Virginia, Piedmont Virginia Community College, James Madison University, Blue Ridge Community College, and for the Shenandoah Valley Partnership. Charles serves at the chairman of the SVBA Green Building Committee, the Immediate Past President of Central Virginia Construction Specifications Institute, and is an active member of the American Institute of Architects. Charles graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2003 with a Master’s of Architecture and from the University of Virginia in 1997 with a bachelor’s of Science degree in Architecture. He has worked hard to become knowledgable in building science and is passionate about designing buildings that save the client money and preserves resources.
Charles and his wife moved to Broadway a few years ago to raise their children in a family friendly community. He loves to spend time enjoying the many activities offered in the Valley from the Mennonite Relief Sale, Rockingham County Fair, to a day at the Children’s Museum.
