On average 70% of that water is used indoors with bathrooms being the largest contributor. Older toilets use  as much as 3.5 – 7 gallons with each flush while standard models use 1.6 gallons or less. The good news is that WaterSense labeled toilets only use 1.28 gallons per flush. Through water conservation the average household can cut total water usage by 60-70%.

Water Conservation takes into account activities to manage fresh water resources, protect the water environment, and to meet current and future demand for fresh water.
