Seems appropriate to feature Michael Graves this week and talk about how his work has inspired me. However, it was not his architectural building designs that I admired most. It was his desire to design all things better.

“Good design should be accessible to all.” ~ Michael Graves

His desire to design things to make them better through understanding the pragmatic function as well as the aesthetic beauty made him famous. From Teapot to Wheel Chairs people have purchased his products to make their lives easier. He took classic architectural form and shape and reshaped it in new ways to make clean modern design solutions.

His most important work may have been design for those of all abilities. He took design beyond functional solutions for those with disabilities and added style and character. He wanted to provide rich solutions that had meaning and style.

#105architecturalinspirations is a collection of architectural details, buildings, and spaces that inspire me. I am taking on the challenge of finding two projects to spotlight each week in 2015. Hopefully I will be able to keep up and this process of discovery will push me to create better design solutions for my clients as I research and learn more about those projects I enjoy most. I challenge you to add your comments below about this project and to post your own inspirations for all to enjoy.
